In my opinion ‘home’ is comfort, aesthetics, soft colours, and happiness. Home is a place I’m very familiar with, it’s where I know I’m safe and secure. Therefore, I wanted to portray ‘home’ through some personal items that I find comforting and things which look aesthetically pleasing.
Tori Aston is a photographer who has done a lot of work in home decor and interior. She photographs things which have neutral colours, this is something I like.
Both of these photos include plants, this is a feature that I relate to home. I specifically like the close up of the plant. This inspired me to focus my photos on being close ups. I feel like it makes it more personal and intimate. The second photo is very well framed, everything is symmetrical and satisfying to look at. The photo itself looks like it could’ve been specifically set up, however the items in the shot look very natural and as if they should be there.
I used a canon 50mm lens to take my photos. This is one of my personal favourite lenses, mostly because I enjoy taking close ups with a shallow depth of field. Using this lens worked particularly well with my objects, because in each shot there is not much going on, therefore the camera only needs to focus on one specific thing. I used my phone LED light when taking the photos, as well as the room light being on. The LED light casted subtle shadows which I liked the look of, as it made the photos look less staged and set up. The LED light also took away some of the yellow tones casted from the room light.
I didn’t find that much editing was required on any of the photos. I adjusted some of the colours, to make the tones more similar in each photo.
