Brief 3 – Final Images

Friend

I used Estera as my model for a friend. We were both very comfortable when taking a series of photos. She was happy with whipping her hair in all different ways, it was very easy to work with her since we’re familiar with another. I gave her lots of instructions which she happily complied to. We took many different pictures, in different poses, adjusting the camera settings and camera position. The final image I picked shows how natural and comfortable she was in front of the camera, she was happy to do whatever. The black background works effectively by enhancing the colour of her hair.

I was a lot less comfortable in front of the camera, finding it hard to know where to look and not liking looking into the lens. I incorporated my research on Richard Avedon by putting the photo in black & white. It works well since there was not a lot of vibrant colours in the original photo.

Stranger

I used Drew as my model for a stranger. He looks slightly awkward and unsure of what to do. I asked him to smile and look straight into the lens, which you can see he’s doing as instructed. However, it looks like a forced smile, which is understandable when someone you don’t know well ask to take your picture. Since he was a stranger, we only took 3 or 4 photos, completely different to when I spent about an hour with Estera when taking photos of her. I really like this shallow depth of field in this photo, it focus purely on the subject.
